Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor who has appeared in film and television as well as on stage, is most well-known for playing Teri Joseph, a fiery lawyer in the show Showtime's Soul Food. After her marriage she became Nikki Kodjoe. As a child, she was a natural actor. In an Maryland competition with high school students, she won the award for the Best Actress. In the years following her involvement in acting and in "The Washington Ballet Company" She was awarded an acting certificate from New York University. Born to Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria until the age of seven. Contractor was a seasoned traveler who enjoyed world travels and a variety of civilizations at an extremely young age. She attended boarding school between the ages of 7 to 9 in London. Then the family moved back in Toronto (Canada) where they spent her entire childhood. Contractor was an outstanding student in Toronto and educated to become the classical ballet dancer. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts, a high school for the arts that was specifically designed to be a school in which she studied not just dance but also drama. Contractor began her acting career at 16 and was a part of the theater for a decade after spending ten years in dance. As she finished high school, she was offered a full tuition scholarship to University of Toronto where she studied theatre with a double degree in psychology and Sociology. Contractor with a degree in sociology, having been a student for a year was invited to audition in an open audition for Pericles in the world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canadain Canada] and was selected for the part. The year 2002 was a great one for her. Canadian theater critics were awed by her performance in 92 performances of the play. The opportunity was presented to her to be a part of the Stratford Conservatory. The school allows only eight males and four women for a crash course in traditional theatre. Contractor was eager to accept. Her place in the upcoming production was secured, and she won the role as Hermia.
